The 05/08/18 episode of WWE SmackDown Live just wrapped up. We’ve got the match results and our overall thoughts on the show for you to check out below. Let us know what you thought about tonight’s show by sending us a tweet, @TheRumbleRamble.

Paige Talks Money in the Bank

Paige came down to the ring to start things off by doing her absolute best to make Backlash sound like it didn’t suck. The crowd wasn’t exactly playing along, but she tried. After briefly discussing Backlash, she moved on to Money in the Bank and announced a few qualifying matches for the two big ladder matches in the upcoming pay-per-view:

  • Jeff Hardy vs. The Miz
  • Charlotte vs. Peyton Royce
  • Daniel Bryan vs. Rusev

Jeff Hardy and The Miz then made their way down the ramp to start their match immediately.

Jeff Hardy vs. The Miz

Money in the Bank Qualifier Match

Jeff and Miz made the briefcase feel important, something the slightly comical case does not do for itself. This was a fairly even back and forth bout with both men getting in all of their moves before it was over. The crowd was on fire for everything they did and only got hotter towards the end.

We thought for sure Jeff Hardy was going to win when he lined up the Swanton Bomb, but The Miz kicked out and shifted his weight just enough to pin the US Champion and take his place in the Men’s MITB ladder match.

Winner: The Miz

Sheamus and Cesaro Backstage

Sheamus was shown backstage munching on a bag of Lucky Charms when Cesaro came to confront him regarding his recent loss to The New Day. Cesaro said that it was his turn to take the lead and not to worry because he wouldn’t be so easy to defeat. After seeming to agree that the proposed match was the right decision, they each opened their gym bags to find they had been stuffed with pancakes.

Nakamura’s Not Finished

Renee Young interviewed Shinsuke Nakamura backstage regarding the recent events between himself and AJ Styles. She asked if the feud was over and he replied with, “no…speak English.” Nakamura claimed that he had forgotten all of his English, but then continued to speak it. The plot thickens.

Mella is Money

We saw Carmella in the locker room bragging about beating Charlotte Flair. Because Mella is Money, of course. Carmella is exactly what she needs to be as champion – undeservedly cocky to the point of being annoying.

Charlotte vs. Peyton Royce

Billie and Peyton obviously had to come out and throw some verbal jabs before any action got started. Billie told Charlotte that her Uncle Craig laughed so hard at her loss at Backlash it cured his lifelong stutter. Congrats, Craig.

Charlotte was none too happy about the teasing and went after Peyton hard the moment the bell rang. She got a little carried away when she tried to attack Billie as well, however, and paid for it when the momentum shifted in Royce’s favor. After several near-falls and some more involvement from Billie Kay, Charlotte finally got the victory by tapping Peyton out with the Figure Eight.

Winner: Charlotte

Cesaro vs. Xavier Woods

The New Day didn’t even try to hide the evidence of their gym bag tampering earlier in the evening, but they couldn’t possibly come out without their signature platter of pancakes.

Another great match, Cesaro even played fair up until the very end. Sheamus attempted to help his partner but was put in his place by Kofi and Big E. Woods came close, but couldn’t bring down the Swiss Superman, who got the pin with a brutal mid-air uppercut.

Winner: Cesaro

AJ Styles Interview

Styles got the chance to have his say about the beef between himself and Shinsuke Nakamura. He was told what Nakamura had said earlier, that they had unfinished business with each other. Styles agreed and said that he would be more than willing to take another swing at The Artist.

Becky Lynch vs. Mandy Rose

Money in the Bank Qualifier Match

Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville were in the middle of plotting their dirty deeds pre-match when Paige approached them and put her foot down about the end of Absolution by barring Sonya from ringside.

It turns out Mandy didn’t need Sonya after all, as she took Becky down extremely quickly all on her own. With the new entrance and graphics and the big win, it’s clear some powerful people have high hopes for Rose.

Winner: Mandy Rose

Rusev vs. Daniel Bryan

Money in the Bank Qualifier Match

The crowd went absolutely wild for this one. And how could they not when two of their favorites are pitted against each other? We couldn’t decide who we wanted to win, either.

What a great night of wrestling for the blue brand and they finished strong. Bryan and Rusev each had something to prove and it showed; they went after each other like nothing could mean more than participating in the MITB ladder match.

After a hard-fought battle, Rusev hit Bryan with a Machka Kick to get the win.

Winner: Rusev
