The 08/21/18 edition of WWE SmackDown Live, out of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, just wrapped up. We’ve got the WWE SmackDown Live results, as well as our overall thoughts on the show, for you to check out below. Let us know what you thought about episode #992 of WWE SmackDown by tweeting us, @TheRumbleRamble.

Miz Has an Announcement

Miz and Maryse kicked off the show by somberly walking to the ring. After standing in silence for a few moments, Miz tearfully announced his retirement…of his feud with Daniel Bryan. Now that he’s fulfilled his dream of beating Bryan by punching him in the face, he was ready to move on with his life.

Daniel Bryan came to the ramp and said Miz will always be remembered – for being a coward. He may have beaten Bryan, but only by cheating, and Bryan was going to expose Miz for the wannabe he really is.

Maryse had heard enough insults lobbed at her husband and told Daniel Bella to go home to his wife. Turns out he didn’t have to go far because Brie was already in the building. She ran down to the ring, but Maryse rolled out before she could get there, so she punched Miz instead.

Bryan then announced to a stunned Miz that Paige had already agreed to a mixed tag match between the two couples at Hell in a Cell.

Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton

The Viper ruthlessly attacked Jeff Hardy, first in the ring, then at ringside by throwing him into the announce table. Back in the ring, Hardy finally shifted the momentum with a whisper in the wind. It looked as though Hardy was about to vanquish The Viper with a Swanton Bomb, but Orton crotched him on the ropes, halting his momentum. Orton then began tearing at Jeff’s gauges again (because it wasn’t disgusting enough the first time)but this time, Jeff wasn’t going to take the abuse lying down and low-blowed Orton, causing a disqualification.

Things fell into chaos after the bell, as the action spilled into the technical area. Hardy bashed Orton’s head in with several foreign objects, then Swanton Bombed him through a table, leaving him lying on the ground as he walked away.

Winner: Randy Orton (via disqualification)

The Bar Interview

Renee Young interviewed The Bar regarding the tag team championships, specifically what they thought about the match between The Bludgeon Brothers and The New Day taking place later in the evening. They were interrupted by the good brothers, Gallows and Anderson, who announced that they were “auditioning for the kickoff panel.” After irritating The Bar for a few minutes, a tag match was announced between the two teams, taking place next week.

Peyton Royce vs. Naomi

Accompanied by Billie Kay, Peyton Royce made her way to the ring, insulting Naomi and the Brooklyn crowd the entire way, of course. Naomi quickly got the upper hand, but after a little encouragement from her Iconic life partner, Peyton turned the tables. Royce defeated Naomi with a fisherman suplex, but not before Naomi slammed Billie’s face into a ring post.

Winner: Peyton Royce

The New Becky Lynch is Here

Becky Lynch stormed to the ring and wasted absolutely no time in releasing her wrath upon the audience. She said that SummerSlam was supposed to be about one thing – Becky Lynch. But instead, she became an afterthought. She then turned on the audience, declaring that they should have boycotted SummerSlam, or at least not applauded for Charlotte Flair when she won.

Becky said she didn’t care what the fans thought anymore, she was only looking out for herself from here on out. And her first act as the new Becky would be to rip Charlotte’s head off.

At this, Charlotte came out ready to fight. The two immediately came to blows, both women prepared to tear the other apart. Paige and the rest of the women’s locker room ran down to break up the scuffle but struggled to keep them away from each other and they continued to brawl until the end of the segment.

Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega vs. Rusev and Lana

This was a fun tag match that was fairly heavily Zelina vs. Lana. Although the same match occurred two days ago at SummerSlam, Almas and Zelina weren’t able to bring down their opponents nearly as easily this time around and Almas eventually grabbed a chair in frustration, prepared to hit Rusev from behind. Lucky for Rusev and Lana, Aiden English was there to make the save and snatched the chair away from Almas, allowing Rusev to get the victory for his team.

Winner: Rusev and Lana

AJ Styles Interview

Renee Young interviewed AJ Styles at ringside. Styles said that although he wasn’t proud of the way he lost the match at SummerSlam, he was still angry with Samoa Joe. And if Joe ever said anything about his family again, Styles would rip his heart out.

The words had barely left his mouth when Samoa Joe attacked him from behind and put him to sleep. He then grabbed a mic and called out Styles’ wife and children again. The champ is not going to be happy when he wakes up.

Mella Wants a Rematch

Backstage, Carmella demanded a rematch from the SmackDown GM, Paige. After an awkward (but amazing) interruption from R-Truth, who was still insistent on fighting Carmella, Paige agreed to a title match between Carmella and Charlotte Flair next week.

The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers

SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship Match

With their tag titles on the line, Harper and Rowan showed no mercy. The Bludgeon Brothers bulldozed Woods and Kingston with everything from their fists to the announce desk chairs. After several minutes of destruction, Harper and Rowan set up a ladder suspended between two chairs and put Kofi through it, but somehow Kingston survived.

In a last-ditch effort to defeat their opponents, Harper threw Rowan and his giant hammer into Kofi Kingston at ringside, but Kofi dodged the attack, leaving Rowan out of action. Left to face Kingston and Woods alone, Harper was put through a table and The New Day became the new tag champs.

Winner: The New Day
