The January 15 2020 edition of WWE NXT, out of the Full Sail Arena in Winter Park, Florida, just wrapped up. We’ve got the match results, as well as our overall thoughts on the show, for you to check out below. Let us know what you thought about episode #542 of WWE NXT by tweeting us, @TheRumbleRamble.

The New No. 1 Contender is Here

As Keith Lee came out on top of the Fatal 4-Way main eventing last week’s episode of NXT, he is now Number One Contender to Roderick Strong’s United States Championship. Lee opened tonight’s show to discuss these events, promising to bring the beginning of the end of Undisputed’s rule over NXT.

Not willing to let their names be dragged through the mud without consequence, The Undisputed Era appeared on stage ready to make him pay. All four members dog-piled Keith Lee, but before too much damage could be done, Tommaso Ciampa made the save.

Resolved to avoid Tommaso at all costs, Adam Cole made a break for it, abandoning the attack on Keith Lee and taking his cohorts with him.

The Broserweights (Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne) vs. Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Round 1

Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne, now known as The Broserweights (in matching gear and everything) made their entrance to take on NXT UK’s Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews.

Chaos erupted very soon after the match began, all four competitors involving themselves in the action, anxious to advance in the tournament.

Back from commercial, Matt Riddle was in control of the action, hitting Flash with a Broton for a near fall. Without missing a beat, Riddle fired off a barrage of strikes when it wasn’t enough to keep his opponent down.

Flash eventually escaped to his corner, where he tagged Mark Andrews into the match for a little double team action before taking over, leveling both Matt and Pete before working with Flash once again for a tandem dive to the floor.

After more double team offense from the opposition, Pete Dunne found a window of opportunity and took it, unleashing strikes on Mark Andrews, then taking it a step further with the help of his teammate.

When Andrews finally broke free with a Northern Lights suplex, he and Flash took over, Flash sending Matt Riddle crashing to the floor before diving onto both Riddle and Dunne.

Matt Riddle went for an electric chair on Mark, but Flash saved his partner in the nick of time, and Mark transitioned into a hurricanrana. Unfortunately for the NXT UK boys, Pete Dunne was right there to save Riddle in turn.

Mark Andrews focused on Pete Dunne on the floor, but in the ring, Matt Riddle was doing damage to Flash Webster, flattening him with a spear before doing the same to Mark.

Flash tried for the easy way out with a roll-up on Riddle, but he broke out at two. Pete Dunne tagged back in at this point, working together with Riddle to double team Flash before chaos ensued once more.

Dunne then went one-on-one with Mark Andrews, going for an x-plex, but Andrews had it scouted, hitting a Stunner instead. Both men tagged out, leaving Riddle and Flash to face off.

The action quickly spilled to the floor, where Matt Riddle slammed Flash with a Tombstone Piledriver. Flash out of commission, Riddle jumped back in the ring to hit a double Bro 2 Sleep with Pete, taking the win and advancing in the tournament.

Winner: The Broserweights

Tommaso Ciampa Wants to Finish Business

Fearlessly marching to the ring, Tommaso Ciampa demanded a microphone. He said that he knew Adam Cole and the rest of The Era had a hit list, but he had one too. And Adam Cole was on it.

His confidence bolstered by being surrounded by his Undisputed friends, Adam Cole ran down to the ring to answer the threat. The quartet attempted their second beatdown of the night but was thwarted once again, this time by Johnny Gargano.

After being given a moment to recover thanks to his former #DIY partner, Tommaso Ciampa helped Johnny Gargano to fight off their attackers and the two stood together to close the segment.

The Time Splitters vs. Grizzled Young Veterans

In the last first-round match of the tag team classic, Alex Shelley made his NXT debut by reuniting The Time Splitters with his old friend Kushida to take on NXT UK’s Grizzled Young Veterans.

And Alex wasted no time getting back into the ring, kicking off the match against Zack Gibson before turning his attention toward James Drake. The Vets tried to double team Shelley to gain control but failed, as Shelley took both opponents on at once. To add an exclamation point to his stellar first moments, Alex tagged in Kushida and the two performed the double dive shown above.

James Drake began wearing Kushida and Shelley down with knee strikes, blocking their attempts to overpower him, but The Time Splitters were soon on the offensive again, double-teaming Zack Gibson.

After taking quite a beating, Zack managed to shove Kushida to the floor, then worked together with Drake to double team Alex Shelley.

Back from commercial, the Vets were doing their best to keep Shelley from his corner, double-teaming him inside the ring and out until Alex escaped, giving the ring to Kushida.

A fresh Kushida sprang into action, dropping both Zack and Drake on his own. With a little help from Gibson, Drake took control with a superkick/neckbreaker combo, but it wasn’t enough to win the match.

Kushida fought hard to offset the Vets double-team attacks until Alex Shelley jumped in to throw some dual attacks back. Shelley took Drake down with a clothesline, leaving Kushida to take on Gibson, but Gibson threw him to the floor before he could attack.

This left Alex alone in the ring, where he fell victim to a Codebreaker from The Grizzled Young Veterans and lost the match.

Winner: Grizzled Young Vets

Finn Bálor Sets His Sights on Ilja Dragunov

In a dark room backstage, Finn Bálor was shown watching Ilja Dragunov tape. He talked about how Ilja reminded him of himself early in his career, and that he felt a certain level of respect for the up and comer. But that wouldn’t stop him from putting him down at Worlds Collide.

Tyler Breeze vs. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott vs. Lio Rush

With NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza happily seated at the commentary table, Tyler Breeze, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, and Lio Rush competed in a triple threat match to determine who will be joining Angel in a Fatal 4-Way for the title at Worlds Collide.

Tyler Breeze got the early advantage with attacks on both Swerve and Rush. Breeze went for a quick win over Lio Rush, but Swerve intervened, shoving Breeze out of the way so he could take on Lio.

Scott took over from here, throwing strikes to Rush and Breeze in turn until he got a little too confident, allowing Lio Rush to catch him off guard.

Lio then turned his attention toward Tyler Breeze, who threw Rush into the apron, to which Rush responded with a kick to the face. Scott and Lio launched in matching flips to the floor and the two brawled for a moment before Tyler Breeze lept onto them.

Back from commercial, Isaiah Scott threw Lio to ringside, looking to focus on Breeze. As Scott and Lio struggled for dominance, Tyler Breeze caught them from behind, throwing them both in a suplex.

The three competed in a dive-off, in which Swerve got the last laugh, throwing Lio back into the ring looking to finish the match, but Rush caught him with a Spanish Fly.

When a few more finishing attempts failed, Tyler Breeze became frustrated, taking out his anger on Swerve, who fought back with strikes before Lio came in, throwing Breeze out of the ring completely.

The action spilled to the floor when Lio slammed into Breeze with a dropkick, hit Swerve with a hurricanrana, and then flew again in a suicide dive. In his final act, Rush connected with a Final Hour on Swerve, but the triple threat was working against him and Breeze broke the pin.

From here, all three opponents unleashed their finishing maneuvers, but it was Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and his JML Driver that took the win.

Winner: Isaiah “Swerve” Scott

Mayhem in the Parking Lot

In the midst of an interview with Cathy Kelley, Johnny Gargano was approached by Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa thanked him for his assistance earlier in the evening, then they moved on to the topic of Moustache Mountain, who had challenged them to a match on twitter.

#DIY agreed to reunite to accept the challenge, but their touching moment was cut short by an attempted attack from Undisputed Era. NXT officials prevented the brawl, but couldn’t stop what happened next.

Keith Lee sprinted out of nowhere, pouncing one Undisputed member into the bushes, throwing another into the windshield of a car, and a third through a table before screaming that The Undisputed Prophecy comes to an end next week.

Women’s No. 1 Contender Battle Royal

The competitors included: Bianca Belair, Candice LeRae, Mia Yim, Kacey Catanzaro, Mercedes Martinez, Jessi Kamea, Io Shirai, Tegan Nox, Shayna Baszler, Catalina, MJ Jenkins, Chelsea Green, Deonna Purrazzo, Dakota Kai, Vanessa Borne, Santana Garrett, Shotzi Blackheart, Xia Li, and Kayden Carter.

  • Bianca Belair elim. MJ Jenkins
  • Bianca Belair elim. Jessi Kamea
  • Shayna Baszler elim. Catalina
  • Shayna Baszler elim. Kayden Carter
  • Shanya Baszler elim. Santana Garrett

Mia Yim leveled Vanessa Borne with her Protect Ya Neck finisher and soon after eliminated her.

  • Shotzi Blackheart elim. Deonna Purrazzo
  • Bianca & Shayna worked together to elim. Xia Li
  • Io Shirai elim. Kacy Catanzaro
  • Bianca Belair elim. Candice LeRae

Mercedes Martinez eliminated Mia Yim, then got into a staring match with Shayna Baszler. Their mutual respect didn’t prevent them from breaking into a brawl that ended with Shayna eliminating Mercedes.

  • Dakota Kai elim. Tegan Nox
  • Shotzi Blackheart elim. Shayna Baszler (!)
  • Bianca Belair elim. Shotzi Blackheart

The elimination of Shotzi meant Io Shirai and Bianca Belair were the final two competitors. Io Shirai used any means necessary to bring Bianca down, including standing on her signature braid in an effort to keep her grounded, but it wasn’t enough.

With her KOD, Bianca Belair launched Shirai over the top rope, claiming the victory and the match against Rhea Ripley at the upcoming TakeOver: Portland event.

Winner: Bianca Belair
