The October 9 2019 episode of WWE NXT is taking place later this evening.
The following “quick hits” are advertised to be included in tonight’s show:
1. Lio Rush Challenges Drew Gulak for the Cruiserweight Championship
In the first two-hour episode of NXT, Lio Rush defeated Oney Lorcan in the No. 1 Contender Match for the Cruiserweight Championship. And tonight, he will cash-in his opportunity and take on the champ, Drew Gulak, with the title on the line.
205 Live is, perhaps, out of the picture, because the Cruiserweight Championship is now called the “NXT Cruiserweight Championship,” but honestly, what better place for this title and division than NXT?
2. Kushida Takes On WALTER
Also during the first two-hour episode of NXT, WALTER and his fellow Imperium members attempted to take over the show but were thwarted by Kushida, who launched himself directly at Imperium, taking out every member but WALTER.
And the next week, after Kushida and Breezango defeated the three henchmen of Imperium, WALTER ambushed Kushida on the stage, leveling him with a big boot.
Tonight, Kushida and WALTER will settle the score in what is supposed to be a one-on-one match, but with Fabian Aichner, Marcel Barthel, and Alexander Wolfe not far away, the odds certainly are not in Kushida’s favor.
3. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott Steps in the Ring with Roderick Strong
Though Isaiah “Swerve” Scott has yet to find a great amount of wins in NXT, he has put on some fantastic performances in his short time as a member of the WWE roster.
And it is these stellar performances that have earned him a match with North American Champion Roderick Strong. This match is not for the title, but if Scott manages to get a win over the champ, who knows what doors could open for him.
4. Finn Bálor Makes His Presence Known
Finn Bálor appeared on NXT last week, declaring that from then on out, “Finn Bálor is NXT” while staring down the NXT Champion Adam Cole.
It seemed pretty clear what his intentions for returning to the black and yellow brand were, but we will get a better idea of what he has in mind tonight.
5. Tommaso Ciampa Comes for the NXT Champion
In another jaw-dropping surprise last week, Tommaso Ciampa made his return to NXT TV after suffering a neck injury that nearly ended his career. Like Finn Bálor, Ciampa wasted no time picking a fight (more or less) with the man who currently holds his precious goldie, Adam Cole.
Bálor and Ciampa are about as tough as they come and pose a large threat to Cole individually, but if they both come after him at the same time, Cole and his title reign are in even deeper trouble.
6. Who Will Step Up to Shayna Baszler?
In one of three championship matches to take place last week, Candice LeRae challenged Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship, determined to dethrone the Queen of Spades once and for all.
But even though Candice took the champ to the limit, she was ultimately unsuccessful in her efforts. As Shayna Baszler has knocked down every single woman who has stepped in front of her, this leaves her in need of yet another new challenger. And we may very well find out who that challenger will be tonight on NXT.
