The October 2 2019 episode of WWE NXT is taking place later this evening.
The following “quick hits” are advertised to be included in tonight’s show:
1. Matt Riddle Challenges Adam Cole for the NXT Championship
Two weeks ago, the first-ever live, two-hour episode of NXT debuted on the USA Network. During that show, Matt Riddle competed against Killian Dain in a Street Fight, as the feud between the two had become so violent, a regular match simply wasn’t enough.
And the Street Fight still wasn’t enough, as it went off the rails with a massive brawl involving the entire locker room. So last week on NXT, there was a second Street Fight, this time to determine which of them would be the one to take the position of No. 1 Contender to Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.
Matt Riddle emerged victorious, and will, therefore, be facing Adam Cole in an NXT Championship Match tonight.
2. Candice LeRae Looks to Dethrone the Queen of Spades
In a similar story behind the NXT Championship Match, Candice LeRae earned the opportunity to face Shayna Baszler for her NXT Women’s Championship by defeating three other women in a Fatal 4-Way on the first two-hour episode.
Candice LeRae overcame Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, and Mia Yim to become the No. 1 Contender to Shayna’s throne and will be cashing this in tonight.
3. The Street Profits Get a Shot at Reclaiming the NXT Tag Team Championships
After Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford lost the NXT Tag Team Championships to the Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish of the Undisputed Era at the end of August, they took a few weeks off from the title chase to introduce themselves to the main roster audience on Raw.
But tonight on NXT, The Street Profits will be returning to the black and gold brand to take a shot at the new champs, hoping to regain their position.
4. Shane Thorne Battles Johnny Gargano
When Johnny Gargano lost the NXT Championship to Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver Toronto, his future in NXT seemed unclear. To clarify where he stood, Johnny made an appearance on an episode of NXT, but before he could announce his official decision, he was interrupted by Shane Thorne.
Thorne was angry that he had been left out of the Breakout Tournament; and worst of all, these new Superstars were taking all of the attention away from him.
He took this anger out on Johnny Gargano, which Johnny responded to with a superkick, so the two will settle things in the ring tonight.
5. The Velveteen Dream Graces NXT
Two weeks ago, during the first two-hour episode of NXT, the Undisputed Prophecy was fulfilled when Roderick Strong defeated Velveteen Dream for the North American Championship.
Velveteen took a break from the spotlight last week but will be gracing NXT TV with his presence tonight, though it isn’t yet known what he has planned.
