At NXT TakeOver: Phoenix earlier this year, The Viking Raiders defeated Undisputed Era to become NXT Tag Team Champions. A few months later at NXT TakeOver: New York during WrestleMania weekend, they successfully defended their titles in an epic match against Dusty Rhodes Classic winners Aleister Black and Ricochet.
The Raiders have proven time and again that they are a force to be reckoned with and, now that they have made their presence known on the main roster, made the decision to move on from NXT completely.
On last night’s episode of NXT, Ivar and Erik announced that they would be relinquishing the NXT Tag Team Championships, as it had become clear that there was no real competition left for them on the gold brand.

Offended by this pronouncement, The Street Profits made their way to the ring to remind The Viking Raiders that they were in the middle of a feud and that they were simply exposing themselves as cowards if they left NXT without finishing it.
Erik and Ivar consented to the challenge, and a championship match was set between the teams. However, Dawkins and Ford were never able to prove themselves to the champs, as the match was sabotaged by The Forgotten Sons, who attacked Ivar, causing a disqualification.
Shortly thereafter, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan joined the fray, but The Viking Raiders overcame once more, standing over them all and proving for the last time that they are the premier NXT Tag Team.
In all the commotion, the fate of the Tag Titles was left a mystery, but earlier today, WWE set the record straight, releasing a statement revealing that the NXT Tag Team Championships had officially been vacated.
