Matt Riddle Challenges Adam Cole for the NXT Championship

To kick off the first-ever live two-hour episode of NXT fully on the USA Network, Matt Riddle stepped into the ring with NXT Champion Adam Cole, hoping to become the next champ.

As Riddle had to get through Killian Dain to make it to this match, he is no stranger to a challenge and gave Adam Cole the fight of his life over the top prize in NXT.

Matt Riddle came very close to taking the win, but with two Panama Sunrises, a Last Shot, and a tiny tap to Riddle’s head with the cast on his right arm, Adam Cole retained the title.

Mia Yim Takes On Io Shirai

Ever since snapping after a particularly unfair loss at the hands of Shayna Baszler, Io Shirai has developed a taste for punishment. And this week on NXT, Mia Yim became her latest victim.

This was possibly Mia Yim’s best match since debuting with the black and gold brand, which was only made better by Io Shirai’s impressive performance.

Candice LeRae Fights for the NXT Women’s Championship

In the second women’s match of the evening, Candice LeRae challenged Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship and truly gave Baszler one hell of a fight.

Shayna Baszler has defended her title against a long list of the best NXT has to offer, but because of this particular pairing, on top of the setting it was held in, this match was something special.

Candice gave Shayna everything she had but once again, The Queen of Spades retained her championship, prolonging her reign over the Women’s Division for at least one more week.

The Street Profits Attempt to Regain the NXT Tag Team Championships

After The Street Profits lost the NXT Tag Team Championships to Undisputed Era a few weeks ago on NXT, they took some time away from the black and gold brand to bring the party to the main roster audience.

But this week on NXT, Montez and Angelo finally returned, with the goal of recapturing the titles from Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly.

The Undisputed Era retained, but not before The Street Profits took them to the absolute limit, giving us some incredible tag team action as they did.

Adam Cole Faces New Challenges

Although Adam Cole made it out of the encounter with Matt Riddle with the NXT Championship in hand, he had very little time to celebrate, as he was confronted by a returning Finn Bálor before he had even stepped out of the ring.

And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge for the champ, after his teammates had retained the tag titles in the main event, Cole came to the stage to join in their celebration where he was met by none other than Tommaso Ciampa.

Ciampa stared into Cole’s eyes menacingly before eyeing his precious goldie, making his intentions clear without saying a word.
