Opening Segment

The show kicked off with a video package recapping last week’s main event matchup between between Johnny Gargano and Andrade “Cien” Almas.

Not only did the loss mean that Gargano failed to secure the NXT Championship once again, but it also meant the end of his NXT career.

Velveteen Dream vs. Tyler Bate

This was a TakeOver-caliber match with a ton of back and forth action.

Velveteen Dream got the win with the Purple Rainmaker.

Tyler Bate’s losing streak was mentioned on commentary. We’re intrigued to see where they are going with him.

Winner: Velveteen Dream

The Authors of Pain Backstage Segment

Backstage, The Authors of Pain (along with Paul Ellering) cut a promo claiming that the duo are going to win the 2018 Dusty Classic, along with the tag title opportunity at TakeOver: New Orleans that comes with winning the tournament.

They want Undisputed Era and those NXT Tag Team Championships bad, to say the least.

Johnny Gargano/William Regal Backstage Segment

Backstage, Johnny Gargano signed his NXT release papers, which is the first thing in wrestling to make me legitimately sad in a very long time.

The segment is available in it’s entirety in the tweet above, if you’re looking for a cruel and unusual way to punish yourself.

Adam Cole (w/ Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish) vs. Cezar Bononi

Prior to the match, Cole attempted to recruit Bononi by offering him a spot in Undisputed Era. Before Bononi could say yes or no, Cole sucker punched him to get the early advantage.

Cole got the win with a running shining wizard to the back of Bononi’s head (while he was standing, making it even more impressive) in relatively quick fashion.

Winner: Adam Cole

Shayna Baszler/Street Profit Segments

A video package highlighting Shayna Baszler and her badass-ness aired. She’s really starting to gain some steam as a major part of the NXT brand.

Following that, the Street Profits hit the streets to interview “fans” (the Profits actually just interviewed each other, pretending to be fans) about the Dusty Classic. The Profits asked who the fans thought would win the Dusty Classic; everyone said the Profits. Funny stuff.

Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler

Another really great match, perhaps Baszler’s best performance since arriving in NXT. Tons of mat work and striking from both women, all of which looked painful as hell.

Baszler got the win with a Kirifuda Driver, a fantastic maneuver.

After the match, Baszler called out Ember Moon. She said she was going to leave with the NXT Women’s Championship or a limb, the choice was Moon’s.

Winner: Shayna Baszler

Zelina Vega/Andrade “Cien” Almas In-Ring Segment

Vega and Almas cut a promo mocking Gargano, including calling him “Johnny Jobless.” Almas said that he didn’t care what you call Gargano, you can call him the NXT Champion.

As the duo were leaving, Aleister Black made his way to the ring. Before he could say anything, Killian Dain came out and the two got physical. Dain laid Black out with a nasty running cross body.

The show ended with Dain standing over Black in the ring, Almas and Vega looking down from the ramp.
