Due to Mustafa Ali’s unfortunate string of injuries making him ineligible to compete in both the SmackDown Live gauntlet match and the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship, the powers that be were forced to find a replacement for the heart of team blue.
Though we, along with many other fans, were heartbroken for Mustafa Ali, we were perhaps equally excited for the man chosen to compete in his stead: Kofi Kingston.
Kofi Kingston did not take the opportunity for granted, giving us a gauntlet match classic and incredible performance fans will be talking about for years to come. Kingston defied all odds and expectations by competing for over 60 minutes, outlasting three other opponents and nearly defeating a fourth.
It seemed the entire world took notice of the stunning effort from Kingston, as an outpouring of love and admiration from peers and fans alike flooded the internet during and after the match. And we only have one thing to say to this: it couldn’t have fallen on anyone more worthy.
